Run by the People’s Government of Henan Province, Anyang Normal University (AYNU), founded in 1908, is located in the city of Anyang, one of the eight ancient capitals and a famous historic and cultural city of China, the hometown of the oracle bone inscriptions and the Yin Ruins, and the cradle of Red Flag Canal spirit. In 2011, AYNU was approved as a pilot unit of master's degree. In 2020, AYNU was named as one of the 17 key featured universities and discipline construction universities of Henan province. In 2021, AYNU was approved as a granting unit of master's degree.

Now AYNU has developed into a comprehensive university with 9 major disciplines of economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, arts, etc.It covers an area of 1380 mu, with a building area of 681,600 square meters, a total value of 439 million yuan in teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment, and 2.28 million copies of paper books in the library.There are 19 teaching schools and 1 continuing education school, 13 postgraduate and 67 undergraduate majors.Three first-level disciplines and four second-level disciplines are identified as key disciplines of Henan Province.Targeting from 20 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions for admission to China, AYNU embraces a wide range of enrollment of over 30,000 full-time students.

AYNU sticks to talent-strengthening strategy.There are currently 1924 staff in which 537 are professors and associate professors, 1395 have MAs or PhDs. There are 1 national and 4 provincial innovative teams,and 12 university innovative teams. Along with 3 excellent talents of national new century, 3 provincial scientific and technological innovative talents, 9 provincial excellent academicians of Social Sciences and 2 annual figures in philosophy and social sciences,

AYNU upholds quality-based education.There are 4 national first-level undergraduate majors, 2 national featured majors, 1 national excellent online course, 5 national first-level undergraduate course, 1 national base for practical teaching, 13 provincial first-level undergraduate majors, and 6 provincial featured majors.AYNU continues to deepen the reform of education and teaching, constantly strengthen the supply-side reform of talent cultivation, and focus on improving the adaptability of talent cultivation to meet the needs of economic and social development. The Young Marxist Training School is founded to train a group of grass-roots public management talents with firm ideals and beliefs and the spirit of serving the people; The International Teachers’ Education School is established to train a group of talents with advanced international education concepts, solid subject expertise, broad international horizons and stronger international curriculum teaching abilities; The establishment of Entrepreneurship School is focusing on training high-quality entrepreneurs with high responsibility and superb management ability; The Internet+ Applied Technology School is to train practical e-commerce talents. AYNU have won diverse prizes in the national undergraduates’ innovative entrepreneurship training program, the challenging cup, the mathematical modeling and other disciplines competitions. More than 100,000 graduates are active in all walks of life with good political competence, solid professional skills, strict work style and outstanding performance.

AYNU adheres to the strategy of building a distinctive university. Much attention is paid to develop “unique skill” with important culture value and inheritance significance. The Institute of Oracle Bone Inscriptions Research is founded, applying cloud computing and big data technology to oracle bone inscriptions research. The laboratory of oracle bone inscriptions information processing is approved as key experimental laboratory of Ministry of Education and Henan Province, which undertakes 17 national fund projects and independently develops “The Oracle Database” with the global largest capacity, the most complete information and the greatest influence in the industry. “Yindu Academic Journal”, published by AYNU, is a journal of Yin Shang Cultural Society of China and selected as a subsidized journal of the Construction Project of Famous Column of Ministry of Education and the National Office of Social Sciences Planning. AYNU actively carries out the training project of Chinese international education, which serves the special needs of the country and is approved as Henan international base for promoting Chinese characters and culture in 2009. In 2012 it began to recruit postgraduates of Chinese international education and overseas students from Thailand, a country along the "One Belt and One Road". So far, 718 postgraduates of Chinese international education have got their MA from AYNU. Chinese international education specialty has been appraised as the authorized unit of postgraduate education with Henan characteristic brand. AYNU is approved as the first batch of experimental areas for teacher education reform and innovation and the continuing education bases for professional and technical personnel in Henan Province.

AYNU insists on developing itself through scientific research. Some high-level laboratories are set up, including a key laboratory of Ministry of Education: oracle bone inscriptions information processing, 2 key laboratory of Henan Province: new photoelectric functional materials and oracle bone inscriptions information processing, 4 engineering laboratory of Henan Province: development and application of chemical energy saving materials, advanced robots, photovoltaic grid-connected power generation and energy storage technology, and intelligence industry of oracle bone inscriptions, 2 Henan international joint laboratory, etc. So far, AYNU has undertaken 293 national and provincial scientific research projects, including 63 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Foundation. AYNU has acquired 17 provincial awards, published 152 academic works and textbooks and granted 164 national patents. Meanwhile, AYNU has published 1576 academic papers in national key journals, including 829 in SCI, SSCI, EI, A&HCI, etc.

AYNU adheres to the policy of opening-up. AYNU is actively involved in enrolling overseas students to study Chinese language and sending volunteers to teach Chinese language in foreign countries. AYNU now is the leading unit of Henan Collaborative Innovation Center of Chinese Overseas Communication and has sent more than 600 volunteers to teach Chinese in more than 10 countries. This number ranks NO.1 in universities of Henan province. AYNU actively introduces foreign high-quality education resources to carry out Sino-foreign joint programs in China. Now there are 3 programs jointly run by Anyang Normal University and Keuka College, USA and Anyang Normal University and Holland College, Canada respectively.
